Jonathan Remington (1677-1745) was a 1696 Harvard graduate and tutor at the College from 1702/03 to 1711. From 1712 to 1719 he served the town of Cambridge as selectman and served as a representative in the General Court for ten years. In 1715 Remington was appointed judge of the Court of Common Pleas and, in 1733, of the Superior Court. He also served on the Governor's Council for ten years. Jonathan Belcher was born on January 8, in 1681 or 1682, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the son of Andrew and Sarah Belcher. In 1746, upon hearing about Governor of New Jersey Lewis Morris's poor health, Belcher actively pursued the opportunity for another royal appointment.
